Addiction

Addiction disease is treatable.

Addiction is a chronic, progressive, relapsing brain disease. Addiction can cause short term memory loss to deterioration in brain function, high blood pressure, cardiac problems, cirrhosis of the liver and many different type of cancers. In the beginning, use of alcohol and drug creates feeling of pleasure and joy. But drug abuse often leads to addiction.  Addiction, not only make the dependent person suffer but family and loved ones are also affected. Family members suffer agony at pain of their loved ones suffering but they even feel helpless of not being able to do anything.

Above all, alcohol (and other drugs) is a major contributing factor in almost all violent crimes as well as a key contributor to road side accidents and associated deaths, serious injuries, sexual assaults homicides and suicides. Addiction is huge contributing factor for the destruction of families.

As with any other disease, Early Detection and Proper Treatment provides the greatest hope for successful and long-term recovery from addiction.  There is help. There is hope. Treatment for drug addiction is necessary to end compulsive cravings and usage.

Historically, India has not had a strong culture of drinking, with prohibition featuring prominently in its past. However, today it is estimated that up to 30% of Indian people consume alcohol, a figure that has seen the number of addictive substance user increase from 1 in 300 to 1 in 20 over the past 20 years. It is estimated that of the 30% of Indians that consume alcohol, 7-10% can be classified as alcoholics or alcohol dependent. This translates into a possible five million people addicted to alcohol in India today.
