How stress can impact sex life

  1. Stress takes a toll on men’s libido. Hormones affect our bodies in numerous ways from childhood to adolescence, pregnancy, menopause and beyond. Long standing stress increaes level of many hormones , one of them is Cortisol. Our body needs this hormone, but in small doses for short bursts of time. If elevated levels of Cortisol are being produced for a prolonged period of time, they suppress sex hormones. Lower quantity of sex hormones leads to low libido.
  1. Stress contributes to a negative body image. Bad body image means bad in bed. The hormones produced in association with stress affects body metabolism. Feeling of sluggishness or weight gain (due to stress), it makes to feel bad about physiques. If we don’t like our bodies, it is pretty difficult to find the desire to shed your clothes and jump into bed with your partner. It’s a vicious cycle which means poor body image so poor in bed which further increase your stress and hence again more low in bed. Less sex creates relationship problems.So how stress affect your body and your sex life which further affect your relationship with your partner

  3.Stress impacts fertility and menstrual cycle. When we are stress hormones levels are affected. Along with many other body hormones stress can impact pituitary gland (master of glands situated in brain) which controls the thyroid, adrenal glands and ovaries. If pituatory gland is affected it will impact other glands also so ovary and therefore changes in ovary can lead to infertility. Menstural periods may become irregular.

  1. Stress makes us question our relationships and our partners. If someone is stressed he lose intrest in day to day enjoyed which further worsen the condition . Lack of interest in other activities may also lead to lack of interest in sexual pleasure. Who wants to go to bed with an emotional monster? Relationships suffer when we are stressed, especially if we stop communicating.
  2. Stress can lead to some sort of bad habits, common one is alcohol or some other addiction.Its quite common that many use alcohol to escape from stress. Many a times a person start consuming of excess of alcohol which in many ways affect personal life and relations. Alcohol and other substances of abuse have their direct as well as indirect effect on sexual life.Men have difficulty getting an erection when they drink too much. Alcohol can dull sex, making it less pleasurable. Alcohol causes dehydration making lubrication challenging. Without lubrication, sex is painful. Without lubrication and sufficient arousal involve in sexual act in not possible. After a number of pleasure-less or mildly painful sexual experiences, interest in sex is lost.
